Wilbert “Will” Paul Wingerter entered eternal rest in Metairie, LA on August 16, 2021, at the age of 78 after a two-year courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 4, 1943 to Camellia Landry and John J. Wingerter. He was a sibling to ten others with only on survivor, his sister Melanie Boudreaux. He was married to Theresa Richard Wingerter and spent 57 wonderful and loving years together. Born to them was a beautiful daughter, Wendy Elizabeth Cochran (Kenneth) whom he loved dearly together with his son-in-law. Will was well loved by a very large family and numerous friends. He was a quiet person, however, extremely funny and witty. He brought laughter and happiness whenever he entered a room. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Up until his illness, he enjoyed golfing, sports as well as old movies and westerns. Will had an interesting passion for Jeopardy, and rarely missed an episode, spending quality time after dinner watching it with Theresa for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. The family wishes to extend their love and gratitude to Lakeside Hospice for their incredible compassion and exceptional dedication and care. Nurse Jacquelyn was so special especially to Will and our family. She was incredible and spent his entire last day by his side working and consoling everyone around. Nurses Erin and Regina as well as Melvin and James were outstanding. A special thanks to everyone for the abundance of prayers offered. Our God Is So Good and carried us throughout! Visitation will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., Metairie, LA on Friday, August 27, 2021 at 10:30 am followed by Mass at Noon by Rev. Robert “Bob” Massett. Burial will follow in Lake Lawn Park and Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, Masses are requested for Will at St. Christopher the Martyr Church, 309 Manson Ave., Metairie, LA 70001.
