When I was a young girl, my father told me that he was stationed in Alaska while my mother was carrying me. She was in Illinois with family when her water broke but my dad was in Alaska. He continued to tell
me that he was determined to be there when I was born so he hitchhiked from Alaska all the way to Illinois. I thought to myself, “Wow! He hitchhiked all that way just to see me be born.” Keep in mind, I had no clue that Alaska was 3,156.5 miles from Danville and approximately a 56 hour drive. I knew it was far but didn’t know specifics.  I told numerous  people throughout my life this story. Then, one day, I introduced him to a friend of mine who knew the story before-hand.  She shook his hand and then said to him, “it’s great to finally meet Missy’s father who hitchhiked all the way from Alaska to Illinois to see her born.” I then asked him how many cars did it take to get there. He started cracking up and answered, “Missy, zero cars. I hitched rides from planes, not cars, silly.  I’d never have made it in time and cars don’t float. I was a little disappointed because I always  thought he was the best dad ever for hitching rides from cars.I did feel silly for not having figured that out sooner, but evidently, hitching rides from military planes isn’t very easy either. 
That was the 1st thing my father did for me but certainly not the last. I then started thinking about all the wonderful things he did for me, the values he instilled in me and the many things he taught me. After looking back,  I came to the conclusion that he was still the best dad ever and I will walk with my chin held high, until the day I die, knowing how blessed I am to have him for a father.  
“I love you Daddy and your memory will remain fresh in my mind and very deep in my heart forever!”

So sad to hear of Bill's passing. We met about 10 years ago and quickly became friends and played many rounds of golf together. I use to meet Bill and Elaine for happy hour quite often as well and shared many laughs with them. Bill was a great person with a good heart and wonderful sense of humor. RIP my friend.

You have my deepest condolences. Like so many others, he affected my life as well as my late husbands, Robert McGivern.  Bill always carried himself professionally and gracefully. There are many collectors and salesmen that have gone before him looking forward to him joining them now.  May you find peace in knowing that he is in a perfect place.

So sorry to hear Bill is gone. We were great friends at Riverside and am thankful we stayed in touch. A few years ago Bill invited me to come to La for a Georgia LSU game. Daly ,another Riverside graduate joined us. It was a memorable weekend.

It’s funny how everyone knew Mr. Bill.  I remember a friend of mine, boasting about how he loved his job and told me what he did, followed up by who he worked for. Of course… Mr. Bill.  Everyone admired him    I know he will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

In the heart of a bustling city street adorned with fluttering flags of green, white, and orange, a vibrant scene unfolds amidst the jovial atmosphere of an Irish parade.  Laughter and traditional music fill the air as spectators line the sidewalks, eagerly awaiting the procession of floats and marchers. 

At the forefront of the image, is Bill with one of grandsons clad in intricate Celtic costumes. That day his grandson twirled and leaped with grace, at Bill's delight. While his daughters tapped their feet, tapping out a rhythm that echoes through the crowd. Their movements are synchronized, embodying the spirit of Irish heritage and culture.

Beside them, a procession of Newtons adorned with shamrocks, leprechauns, and symbols of luck wind their way through the street. 

Amidst the throng of onlookers, families gather with children perched atop shoulders, eagerly waving Irish flags and cheering as the parade passes by. Smiles adorn faces young and old, united in celebration of their shared heritage.

The sun casts a warm glow over the scene, adding to the sense of joy and camaraderie that permeates the air.

Overall, the picture captures the essence of the Newton's at an Irish parade: a spirited celebration of tradition, community, and the enduring spirit of the Emerald Isle. 

In the final image, the photographer's shadowy figure, mine, serves as a subtle reminder of my presence, a silent witness to the beauty and vitality of the moment captured forever in the frame.

I remember the first time I met Mr  Bill. I was so nervous, but his smile lit up the room and his charming and funny demeanor made me relax. I can't even explain how much he has meant to me nor how appreciative I am for everything he had ever done for me. He was more than just the owner of a company that I had worked for; he was family. He was loved by all and he will be dearly missed.

My sincerest condolences on the passing of your father, Bill. Amidst this loss, let us remember two of the most important things about Bill: his unwavering ability to bring laughter and joy to those around him, and his genuine intent to make every moment memorable. Though Bill may have departed, his legacy of laughter and joy will forever echo in our memories. I'll fondly recall the moments shared with Bill, both in and out of the office, bringing warmth and laughter even in his absence. While his departure may feel like a hot check in my heart, I find solace in over drafting from the cherished moments bank he generously left behind. With his memory as our endless source of comfort, may we never experience a moment of "insufficient funds" in our hearts. I'm thinking of you all at this time, offering my support and sympathy during this difficult period.

They may not build a monument, but those he taught, mentored, and built relationships will be living testaments to Bills professional accomplishments.

His beautiful family will emphasize his personal successes.

So very sorry to hear about the loss of Bill, he truly was an inspiration to all that knew him.  Not only was he a wonderful boss, but an amazing mentor to all.  I worked for him when he was part owner of MRCS, many years ago and we remained friends.  Such a huge loss for many of us and he truly touched a lot of people's hearts.  He was always there to talk to us and to help guide us in the right direction. 

RIP Boss Man, you will be missed by everyone you came in contact with.

My prayers and condolences to the entire family. I have worked with Bill and been a friend for 27 years. We spoke just about every other day for the last 9 years. He was a good man and cared deeply for his family. I will really miss him.

Bill was a huge innovator in the collection world. I began with Newton & Associates in 1999 in a small 2 story building packed to the rim with talented individuals. As the industry grew so did the competition and Bill made sure that Newton was a heavy contender in the collection world. I have never been pushed as hard by someone in my life and I stayed with Bill for 22 yrs and went with him to every agency he started. Bill was a loving and stern individual. I have learned so much under his mentorship and I will always be grateful to him and his beautiful family. Elaine will be with her husband again and they can watch over their amazing family as they grow and multiply. Much love to you all. Forever in my thoughts.

Mere words could never express how Bill touched lives; I know many of them.  My life, well...having kept in touch with Bill over the past 18 years, surviving nearly 3 divorces, (Bill kept up with all of my name changes) I am privileged to have worked for him when Newton & Associates was still Newton & Associates.  I didn't even have to move my desk when we found out there would be a big transition.  And there were many transitions to follow.

But this past November, after a heartbreaking parting of the ways with another agency, a terrible car accident, and my final separation from my 3rd husband, I was ready to go back to work and gave him a call. He tenderly said, in his southern-gentleman accent, "Heidi...DAH-LIN'... What can I do for you?"  Bill went out of his way to make sure I was welcomed on board at ESP and that I had everything I needed.  I told him that I started my career with him, and it was only fitting that I end it with him; coming full circle when I retire.  This isn't what I had expected.
 
Bill was a born leader; an educator who taught life lessons alongside the ones that birthed the success of many. You just couldn't help loving this man if you stuck around.  He was my mentor, my friend, and my boss, who along with the masses in the world of collections, changed my life, my path, and my heart. 

I wish we could have had some lunch together this time around Bill.  Maybe next time.

Heidi (Patton-Turley) McCloskey

My heart goes out to the entire family. I know what an amazing man he was. He had a heart of gold and caref deeply for his family, friends and employees. I’ve known Bill for decades, and he was always extremely good to me and my family, especially my daughter. I am forever grateful for that. He will be sadly missed.

Bill was a great man. 
After Robert Cooper introduced us, we became fast friends. He was a great listener and mentor.

The loss of Bill Newton is nothing less than heartbreaking...he was mentor and father figure to far more people than anyone could ever imagine...
I only know because I'm one of the many who were blessed to know and learn from one of the smartest and brightest men I've ever met...I've never met anyone in my life that balanced kindness and sternness in the way he did...
I wish I would have listened more, but I can assure you, I thank God that I was afforded the opportunity to know such a great and influential man. 
God Bless You Bill, you will never be forgotten.
