Yolanda O. Rivera

Yolanda Ocampo Rivera was called home Thursday, March 19, 2015, at age 84. Yolanda was a native New Orleanian and longtime resident of Jefferson Parish. Yolanda was preceded in death by her loving husband William Rivera, Sr. after 58 years of marriage; her beloved niece Yolanda May Burks Planellas; and her parents Gonzalo and Francesca Ocampo. She is survived by her children William Rivera, Jr. and wife Donna, Stephen Rivera, and Warren Rivera and wife Cheryl; grandchildren Michael P. Rivera, Drew G. Rivera, and Paige Fleming; sisters Lydia Ocampo Burks and Frances Ocampo Weinberg; and niece Shelly Planellas. Yolanda taught early childhood education for 40 years, eventually retiring from Green Park Elementary School. Yolanda also taught English as a second language. She graduated Valedictorian from Sophie B. Wright High School, received her BA from Newcomb College, and earned her Master's of Education from UNO. She had a deep passion for and an appreciation of music. She was a member of numerous church choirs as well as The Metairie Melodears. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 12:00 pm at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124.
