Allen Gary Hovik was received by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 12th, 2026. He was born on May 20th, 1946, in Oakland, California. He proudly served the United States Navy, as a Signalman, for four years, and served the citizens of Norfolk, Virginia, for 33 years alongside his fellow Police Officers, serving as a Patrolman, a K-9 Officer, a member of Norfolk's Emergency Response Team, as a Vice Narcotics, Robbery, and Homicide Detective, he served as Norfolk Police Department's Major Case Liaison with the Federal Bureau of Investigations, and Supervisor of the Forensics' Department and Bicycle Patrol.
Allen was many things to many people, a Shipmate, a devoted servant to his community, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a reliable friend and neighbor, however his most cherished title
was that of Pop-Pop.
He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Regina, his younger brother Bobby Hovik, and his favorite Uncle, Bob Hovik, who, along with our holy mother, Mary, were there to greet him in heaven. He is survived by his loving wife Diann, his sister, Cindy; his children -- Eric Hovik (Meagan) and Kristina Stutzman (Henry); and, most importantly, his grandchildren -- Abigail Hovik, Emma Stutzman, and Alex Hovik.
And many loving nieces and nephews.
Al was a great friend, always there to lend a helping hand, a listening ear, or share a good joke from the life he treasured. Allen cherished the happiness of others, and always put his community, friends, family, and co-workers and neighbors before himself. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy and a lifetime of memories, showered in love and generosity, that will eternally live in our hearts.
May he rest in peace, and may his memory continue to inspire each of us, especially those he leaves behind, to embrace life with love and joy in our hearts, as he did. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
