Borghild Lero

August 18, 1921 – June 29, 2016

Borghild Lero, 94 of New Port Richey, died on June 29, 2016. Services will be on Saturday, July 2 : Viewing starting at 10am and a service at 12 Noon at the funeral home.

Borghild Lero was born in Kleppe, Norway on August 18, 1921 to Karoline and Kristian Heimli. She was the 15th of 16 children born to Karoline and Kristian. She attended the Kleppe Skole and graduated from the 8th grade. She went to work at a young age, as a maid and later in a bakery. She attended the Strussham Church with her family on that island. She married Sjur Bertin Lero on October 24, 1942 during the German occupation of Norway. Sjur and Borghild settled in Kleppe and had four children. Sjur worked as a builder, until an injury led him to look for other opportunities.

Borghild rededicated her life to the Lord after Sjur accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. Both of them had a passion for spreading the Good News of salvation through the finished work of Jesus Christ. Sjur now had a longing to reconnect with his father who had left for the USA, to share the Good News that Jesus loved him. So the dream to go to the USA started taking shape in the hearts of Borghild and Sjur.

In August of 1955, Sjur left for the United States. On January 15, 1956, Borghild and the children left their beloved homeland and extended family and sailed over the Atlantic to the USA. Both Borghild and Sjur worked hard to build a new home for their family. They fervently served the Lord in singing, youth work, Sunday school, psych hospital ministry and church leadership. Borghild would always share her love for Jesus with anyone she met and loved to encourage everyone in their faith. She was very generous with her family and supporting God’s work. She was hospitable to all – friends from Norway, visiting pastors and missionaries, Bible studies and those in need.

Sjur passed away in October 1994. Borghild moved into an apartment in the home of Marit and Mike, who have taken well care of her since Sjurs passing. Borghild was preceded in death by all her siblings and her great grandchild, Daniel Lero. She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Steinar and Connie Lero; Marit and Mike Bell; Kari and Ralph Olsen and Rune and Nancy Lero, and 12 grandchildren: David (Patty) Lero, Joy (Jim) Fredrickson, Heather Lero, Leann Rodriguez, Mark Bell, Derek (Mariann) Bell, Kevin (Kim) Olsen, Jeffrey (Heather) Olsen, Darren (Kara) Olsen, Laura (Jarrod) Poorman, Tasha Lero, Michael (Meredith) Lero. Borghild also has 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her brother-in-law Olav Lero and sister-in-law Borghild Lero and many nieces and nephews.

Borghild will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her, but we rejoice in knowing that she is with her Lord and Savior.
