left this Earth and went home to the Lord April 30, 2018. He passed away peacefully with his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Patricia L. Fawley by his side and in their home that they were so very proud of.
Curtis was born in Peru, West Virginia on October, 31 1924. He grew up in Moorefield, WV where he attended Moorefield HS and lettered in three different sports all four years at Moorefield High. Leaving high school with various sports records, Curtis was able to spend some time with the Boston Red Sox farm system. With different schools offering scholarships though, he decided to attend the University of Maryland on a football scholarship. His time was short there as Curtis would join the Merchant Marines in the mid 1940s where his duties included delivering oil and other supplies through the Atlantic and Gulf Coast regions. He then joined the Army where he was stationed at Los Alamos, New Mexico working with the Atomic Energy Department. After leaving the Army Curtis worked for different private contractors which lead to his career with the Federal Government in the beginning of the 1950s. He started at the Pentagon with the Comptroller of the Army and then moved to the Department of Defense (DARCOM) where he spent the bulk of his thirty plus years of governmental service. Not only did he work his government job, he also worked as a Manager of the Giant Food store in Alexandria, Virginia for over twenty years. Curtis retired with his family to Clearwater, Florida in the beginning of 1984. He then worked for Sears for about 5 years. By the early 90s Curtis was finally fully retired where he could enjoy the things in life that he so loved. Those things included cooking, working around the house, playing golf, going to car shows, watching movies and sports and following his beloved Washington Redskins, West Virginia Mountaineers and Tampa Bay Rays. However, his true love was his family and spending as much time with them as possible. He loved his three daughters, Brenda Mowdy, Pamela A. Fawley, Kimberly L. Oyen, and his son Donald C. Fawley as much as a father possibly could. His love was also shared by his son-in-law Bob Mowdy and daughter-in-law, Julie A. Fawley. In retirement, he found much joy and love in his granddaughters Jennifer Worster, Brittany L. Gomez, Brianna P. Fawley and Caitlyn P. Fawley. He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren. He was so very proud of each and every one of his grandkids and cherished the moments and memories that he shared with each one as they grew up. However, his true love and the one he shared so much with was his loving and devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Patricia L. Fawley. They shared many special memories such as vacations to Florida, NC, Niagara Falls, Canada, Maine, many beaches, bowling nights, reunions, cookouts with family and friends and too many memories to share. Curtis will be missed by anyone who ever met him, for he had a beautiful smile and warm greeting for all and especially those of us that were closest to him as we truly know what a special man he was and that there will never be another one like him. Until we meet again. We love you Curt, Sweetheart, Dad, and Pappaw. Rest in Peace.
