APRIL 26, 1938- NOVEMBER 1, 2013
William who was known to family and friends as Willie, Bill, or Chevy was born to Frank and Lucy Cheverino in Brooklyn, NY on April 26, 1938.
He is survived by wife, Theresa Cheverino , children Angela and her husband Chris, Fran and her husband Brett, Lucy, Corinne and husband Mike and Billy and wife Joyce. Grandchildren, Anthony, Danielle, Kristina, Nicole, Sheena, Brian, Brandon and Breanna and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers David and wife Anna, Joey and wife Anne, and Michael and wife Belle. He had a slew of nieces and nephews, not to mention godchildren. I would say he was very loved.
In his younger years William joined the army and was part of the 101 airborne unit. He took fighting for his country very serious and was a very proud veteran. After leaving the army he went on to do many things. For over 30 yrs he was a stockbroker in New York City . During this time in his life, it was tradition for his wife and daughters to meet him on Christmas Eve in the city and they would all go on a horse and carriage ride which he loved doing after taking everyone to see all of the beautiful christmas light displays, then to dinner and finally to midnight Mass. He loved the holidays. We are all pretty sure he loved Thanksgiving time for that was hunting season and his brothers and best friends would all get ready for the big hunting trip. He loved to hunt and come home with his deer and cook a big pot of stew for everyone. His kids' friends really remember that about him because he got them to try something new for the first time.
William was known for many things. He loved to cook and opened up his own restaurant after moving to Florida with his wife, Theresa. They called it The Italian Touch. People loved his food and his bigger than life personality. He often got to speak on a local radio station about the restaurant, the food and Brooklyn. People came from all over to meet the man behind the voice. He never judged anyone and was always the first to help out if someone was hungry or down on their luck.
Being the avid dancer he was you would always find him and wife Theresa on a dance floor cutting it up. If there was a dance going on somewere or a party they were invited to, there they were front and center. People actually stopped what they were doing just to watch the two of them on a dance floor. The next thing you knew, he would be up on the bandstand behind the drum set playing his heart out or singing the oldies. He was the life of the party telling stories or doing magic tricks for everyone.
Willaim loved to live and lived to love. His wife and family always came first. He had a heart of gold and would do anything it took for his family to be happy. He was a very strong man and fought through his illness like a champ. FIghting to the bitter end even then worrying about his family.
We will all mourn the loss of this beautiful man with the heart of gold, but we will all rest alot easier knowing he is in God's hands and in peace. He celebrated his life to the fullest and wanted everyone to celebrate after. So we shall all honor his wishes and celebrate his life now and forever.
MAY HE REST IN PEACE AND DANCE WITH THE ANGELS.
