Alberta "Birdie" Jones

Alberta “Birdie” Rose (Hartz) Jones, 70, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at her home. She was born August 27, 1944, in Newburgh to the late Edward Thomas and Loretta Laura (Graehler) Hartz.

She graduated from Castle High School in 1962, where she was a cheerleader. Birdie retired after working 30 years at Evansville Titles. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Newburgh. Birdie served as Secretary/Treasurer at Area 10 Special Olympics for 26 years. She enjoyed playing softball and volleyball and coaching youth softball and soccer.

Birdie was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ruth Lechner, Cyrilla Heim, Martha Jane Hartz; and brother, Edgar Hartz.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jerry C. Jones; daughters, Jennifer A. Jones Hall and husband, Steve, and Joanne L. Jones Bishop and husband, Jerry; sisters, Dorothy Biggs, Connie King; brothers, Leroy and Dennis Hartz; grandchildren, Kaleb, Tory and Austin Hall, Ashley Utley, William and Brayden Bishop; great-grandchildren, Brianna Hall, Emma Utley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 2, 2015, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Newburgh with Rev. Anthony Govind presiding. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Friday, 2-8 pm at Alexander Newburgh Chapel and Saturday, 1:00 PM until service time at the church.
