She was born December 23, 1938 in Scuffletown, KY to Rufus, Sr. and Anna Belle McLean. She was a 1957 graduate of Boonville High School where she met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Kroeger who would precede her in death after 50 years of marriage. Betty was also preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Rufus, Jr. (Mary Lois – surviving) McLean.
She devoted her life to raising her three sons and Bob. Later in life, she loved working as a florist at Zeidler’s and Guest House Florist in Evansville. She served her Lord at Zion U.C.C. in Newburgh where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed spending her mornings with the Hardees breakfast club. Betty loved the outdoors and spent many summers at the Boonville Boat club with her family. As members of the Castle Athletic Booster Club, they rarely missed a Castle football game. Once football season was over, they could be found loading up the camper to head south to Florida for the winter months. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and loved sharing her talents with the Kazoo band at the Newburgh Senior Citizens Center.
Betty is survived by three sons; Gale (Kim), Gary, and Larry; sister, Mary (Rev. Lester) Howard; two brothers, Eddie (Donna) McLean and Owen (Robbin) McLean; two granddaughters, Allison and Andrea, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express extreme gratitude to Angel River Nursing Home for their continuing care over the past year.
The funeral service will be 10 AM, Thursday, February 9, 2012, at Zion U.C.C. in Newburgh, officiated by Rev. Dan Kennedy, with burial at Bates Hill Cemetery in Yankeetown. Friends may visit Wednesday, 2-8 PM at Alexander Newburgh Chapel and 9 AM until service time on Thursday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newburgh Senior Citizens Center, who provided so much joy and laughter for Bob and Betty.
