David R. Smith, 71, of Newburgh, IN passed away Monday, April 9, 2018 in his home surrounded by his family after a 3-year battle with cancer. He was born in Tell City on February 7, 1947 to Agnes Goffinet (Delaisse) and Raymond Smith. He graduated from Tell City High School and then attended Evansville College studying engineering. He worked in the design department at Alcoa for over 40 years, and was actively involved in safety training. David was an active volunteer in youth sports for 15 years in the Newburgh area coaching baseball, softball, soccer and basketball. He loved being outdoors and being active while biking, golfing and hiking with family and friends. He also loved spending time with family and watching his grandchildren participate in sporting events. David was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joyce (Smith) Oskin. He is survived by his wife, Victoria (Hubbs) Smith. They were married on December 30, 1966 and spent a lifetime together raising their family. They enjoyed traveling together for new adventures over the last 10 years. He is also survived by his son, David C. Smith (Amy); daughters, April Gill (Jeff), Debra Elkins (Bryant); and seven grandchildren, David (Sarah), Madeline, Emily, Ethan, Allison, Jaxon, and Eva. A Celebration of Life for David will be held 4:00 PM, Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel officiated by Pastor Mike Claypool. Friends may visit 1:00 PM until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to IU Health Simon Cancer Center in David's name at https://www.iuhealthfoundation.org/donate.
