Devaki grew up in Salem, Tamil Nadu by her father’s side helping with the family business. While her initial career began as a teacher in India, she devoted her married life to being a wife, mother and homemaker.
Before moving to Newburgh, IN four years ago, she and her husband built their lives for nearly 50 years in Gloversville, NY. There they were pillars of their community and made many friends who became family. Her passion was cooking and when asked, her favorite spice was chili powder. Her family will forever cherish the memory of her many years of hosting holidays with delicious food they would wait for all year long. As a devoted mother, she raised her two children giving them every opportunity possible and encouraging them always along the way. Her grandchildren were her joy and she always provided them with candy money and laughs.
Her memory will be cherished by her loving husband of 54 years, Dr. H.B. Keshava; daughter and son-in-law, Deepa and Chandrashekar Kumbar; son and daughter-in-law, Praveen and Christina Keshava; and grandchildren, Ishani, Rahini, Lila, Julie, Ankur, and Anisha. She will be deeply missed by her family in India including her sister, Madammal; and brothers, Kulothungan and Selvaraj. Her close family in the U.S. will hold dear the memories with her forever. She will also be greatly missed by her niece, Priyanka who lovingly helped to take care of her in her final year. She had countless friends who felt her warmth and generosity who will also miss her dearly.
