

She was a member of Rolling Hills Country Club, Brentwood Garden Club, and Methodist Temple Hand Bell Choir.
She was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing orchids. Edna was a judge for flower show competitions. She volunteered as a Girl Scout leader and for the Evansville Art Museum. She was an artist, a music lover, pianist, and an avid golfer. Edna married the love of her life, Kenneth Major, on June 17, 1950. She enjoyed traveling and they spent their winters in Florida. She also enjoyed boating at their home on Lake Barkley.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Major; brothers, Frank Shiver and Ken Hames; and brother-in-law, Gary Pace.
Edna is survived by her husband of 60 years, Kenneth Major, of Newburgh; daughters, Cassandra Major of Barre, VT, and Jennifer Susan Major Fischer, and her husband, Charles (Pete) Fischer of St. Louis, MO; sisters, Alice Schroeder (Howard) of Newburgh, and Shirley Pace of Evansville; brothers, David Hames (Paulette), Ed Hames (Diane), Steve Hames (Cathy), all of Newburgh; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marion and James Major, of Evansville; and sisters-in-law, Della Shiver, and Beverly Hames.
The family would like to thank caregiver, Dianne Heisler Chapman, and the VistaCare Hospice nurses and aids for their compassionate care for Edna.
Services will be 11:30 am, Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Rev. John Hilbert, with burial at Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit 3-8 pm, on Friday at the funeral home.
