Liz grew up in Logansport, Indiana, and was active in church, music, and her great love – the library. She attended Illinois Wesleyan University, where she studied music and voice, and became an elementary school teacher. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota music sorority. It was at university that she met and married her husband, Jim.
She held a household and raised her family. She was very creative – a pianist, painter, sculptor, potter, and knitter. She was a voracious reader, lifelong learner, seeker, teacher, and pioneer. She provided gathering places for other seekers, and in her 50’s, opened A.A. Michael Books, a bookstore and meeting place that was open and supportive of each individual’s search for truth, healing, and connection with the Divine. She owned her bookstore for 20 years. She and Jim were also quiet philanthropists. They helped children, women, families, and animals to have better lives in many ways.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James E. Yohe, and her parents.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Yohe (Ricky Cullipher); son, David Yohe; sister, Mary Jane Day (Jim); and brother, John Reid.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel. Friends may visit Wednesday from 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Burial services will be at a later date.
Contributions: Liz had a dream to start “Caps for Kids”, a group of people who would meet to make or provide hats for children going through medical treatment at St. Jude’s Hospital. If anyone would like to join with her, they may bring a new, fun/cool child’s hat to the funeral home, or send to the family at any time to be forwarded to St. Jude’s. As she was also concerned about children having enough food, contributions may also be made in her honor to the Tri-State Food Bank.
Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderNewburghChapel.com.
