

After attending Fordsville High School, he joined the U.S. Navy and served proudly for 20 years on Diesel and Nuclear submarines. Upon retiring from the Navy, he worked his way up the ranks at Alcoa and retired after 21 years.
Eugene was a long-time member of the Fleet Reserve Association, serving over the years as Regional President, National Chaplain, and National President. He spent his retirement watching and playing golf, proudly scoring his age at times, traveling with his wife, gardening, reading, and giving gracious advice and support to his grandchildren. He was an active member of Grace and Peace Lutheran Church in Evansville.
Eugene was a kind and compassionate person, and those who knew him are truly blessed.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lois; daughters, Marsha Lou Rosenberg, of Liverpool, NY, and Cheryl Ann Helson of Georgetown, TX; grandchildren, Megan, Johanna, Tana, Curtis, Jacob, and Russell; great-granddaughter Naomi; and siblings, Donnie, Bobby, and Barbara Sue.
Services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Grace and Peace Lutheran Church, 200 S. Boeke Road, Evansville, IN, officiated by Rev. Tim Linstrom. Military Honors will be performed at Fordsville Cemetery, Fordsville, KY, at 2:30 PM, by the Ohio County Honor Guard. Friends may visit 4-8 PM at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, Newburgh, IN, or 9:00 AM to service time at the church.
