

He was a graduate of Inman High School, Inman, KS. He graduated from McPherson College in 1962 with a B.S. in Business and Economics. Ivan married Virginia, his high school sweetheart, June 12, 1959.
Ivan started his career with Conoco in 1967 and stayed with them until he retired from the Consol Division in 1996. During his career, he was passionate about college recruitment of mining engineers. In recognition of his work, the Society of Mining Engineers created the Ivan B. Rahn Award given annually to a deserving engineering student in Ivan’s honor.
He was a member of Newburgh Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder.
Ivan enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and tending his property with his John Deere tractor.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ivan is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia of Boonville, IN; daughters, Cindy Pierson (Kerry) of Newburgh, IN; Patti Hale (Alan) of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Laura Pierson, Christopher Pierson, Philip Hale, Matthew Hale; brother, Eugene Rahn (Lovina) of Ponca City, OK; sister, Frances Nunemacher (Gary) of Lake Havasu City AZ; nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 PM, Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Newburgh Presbyterian Church, 642 French Island Trail, Newburgh, IN, officiated by Rev. Kathleen Fox with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh. Friends may visit Saturday, 2 PM to 6 PM at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, Newburgh, IN or 1 PM to service time at the church.
