

Jan was born in Rockport, Indiana, on June 19, 1942, to Elvis and Wanda Adams. He graduated from Rockport High School in 1960, where he was on numerous sports teams, musical, academic, and social clubs. He was also known as Jan “The Music Man” Adams for his musical abilities and for playing Taps for local veterans. He graduated from the University of Evansville and maintained a lifelong love for the Evansville Aces. Jan proudly served his country as a Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army National Guard.
An avid fan of NASA and space exploration, Jan worked at Cape Canaveral’s NASA Kennedy Space Center constructing the iconic Vehicle Assembly Building.
Jan went on to become a Vice President of Commercial Lending at Merchants Bank in Indianapolis. It was during this time that he met his beloved wife, Michele. Together, they moved to Tell City, Indiana, where he took a position with Fretina Corporation, as Vice President for Delta Mining Company, and proudly served on the board of directors for Southern Indiana Resource Solutions (SIRS). It was here that Jan and his wife welcomed two daughters, Amy and Molly. In 1991, Jan and Michele moved to Newburgh, Indiana to raise their family.
Jan was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and rarely missed a game. He shared his love and knowledge of music, animals, reading, and history, among other interests, with those around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvis and Wanda Adams.
Jan is survived by his wife, Michele; his two daughters, Amy De La Cruz (Javier) and Molly Adams, and his beloved granddaughter, Olivia De La Cruz. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Dawson (Jim); nephew, Gene Dawson (Angie); niece, Jamie Dawson, as well as his great-nephew Bryant Dawson (Andrea); great nieces, Tara Gilreath (Corey) and Macie Dawson, and great-great-nephew, Hayes Dawson.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel. Visitation with family and friends will follow the service until 4:30 p.m.
