

His entire professional career was involved with the brewing industry. He operated the Sterling Brewery from 1975 through 1983. He retired in 1993 from the Stroh’s Brewing Company in Baltimore, MD.
John graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was an avid Badgers and Packers fan.
He enjoyed traveling back to Wisconsin to visit friends and favorite places from his youth. John also enjoyed stamp collecting, keeping up-to-date with the brewing industry, and spending time with his friends, family, and especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marianne.
John is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Hillman of Trumansburg, NY; son, John Gaustad of Friendswood, TX; daughter, Karen Wilson and husband, Glen of Newburgh; son, Mark Gaustad of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren, Erik Hillman, Jessica and John Gaustad, and Nicole and Ryan Wilson; also his canine side-kick, Baxter.
The family would like to thank Dr. Anthony Stephens, who helped him during his 11-year battle with cancer, and all his friends and neighbors in Landmark Subdivision, and the sixth floor oncology unit staff at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, December 11, 2010, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel. Friends may visit Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
