Joyce Marie (Owen) Schmidt

Joyce (Owen) Schmidt, 74, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Deaconess VNA Plus Hospice in Evansville. She was born July 31, 1940, in Newburgh to the late Louie Dumas and Ruth Marie (Schnapf) Owen.

She graduated from Newburgh High School where she was a cheerleader. She attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Newburgh and helped with bereavement dinners at the church. She liked to spend time gardening, especially her roses. Joyce enjoyed camping, shopping, sewing, craft shows, taking care of the hummingbirds, collecting antiques and walking the mall. She loved spending time with family, especially her grandkids.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Wayne Owen.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Joseph Schmidt; daughters, Sabrina Goelzhauser (Tom), Angela Martin (Tom), Amanda King (Randy), all of Newburgh, Tara Null (Denny) of Mayfield, KY; grandchildren, Eric and Chad Goelzhauser, Alex and Mallory Martin, Joe (Sarah) and Jeremy King, Megan, Molly and Owen Null.

The family would like to thank the staff at Deaconess VNA Plus Hospice for their compassionate care of Joyce.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, May 4, 2015, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Newburgh, officiated by Father Thomas Kessler, assisted by Father Joseph Ziliak, with burial at St. John Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit Sunday, 2-7 PM, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel.
