

He graduated from Campbell Grade School in 1931 and Bosse High School in 1935. He was employed by Bootz Manufacturing, Sunbeam Electric, Western Electric, Republic Aviation and retired from Indiana Bell Telephone Company in 1980 after 38 years. He was a long-time member of Zion UCC in Newburgh. His hobbies have included gardening, hunting, fishing and insulator collecting.
Marion was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Venedia; parents, Mary and Alfred H. Oschmann; step-son, James D. Scherer; and granddaughter, Marian Vogt Peterson.
He is survived by his daughters, Kay Oschmann Vogt and her husband, Bill of Millbrook, IL and Jane Oschmann Schmitt of Newburgh; grandchildren, Ken Scherer and his wife, Carolyn, and their children, Nate and Megan, David S. Scherer and his wife, Melissa, Dan Vogt and his wife, Jane, and their children, Jeremy and Heather, Warren Peterson (husband of Marian) and their children, Emily and Andrea, David L. Vogt and his wife, Joyce, and their children, Bailey, Sydney and Avery, Joe Schmitt and his wife, Lona Ann, and their son, Will, and Melanie Schmitt Goebel and her husband, Brady, and their children, AJ “Little Jake” and Addison.
Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, December 31, 2011, at Zion United Church of Christ, 10 West First Street, Newburgh, officiated by Rev. Dan Kennedy, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery at a later date. Friends may visit Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, and Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time at the church.
