

Mary Emma was born in Chandler, Indiana, on September 17th, 1934. She graduated from Evansville Central High School in 1952. Throughout her life, Mary Emma enjoyed spending quality time with her beloved husband of 58 years, Jim Hood, as well as her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed bowling in the Tuesday night league at Arc Lanes with Jim and friends for 25 plus years. Her other hobbies included watching her children and grandchildren play sports and participate in various activities. For many years Mary Emma enjoyed painting ceramics, which her family still cherishes to this day. Mary Emma was an avid University of Evansville Aces fan enjoying many years of UE basketball games and later softball games. She was a member of Oak Hill Bible Fellowship, where she attended for 60 years. In retirement she enjoyed traveling with her husband and close friends around the country. She will be remembered for her kindness, selfless spirit and the deep love she had for her family. Her legacy will live on in the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all who were blessed to know her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Judy and Jim Sturgeon, and her loving husband, Jim, who passed away in May of 2025.
Mary Emma is survived by children Karen (Toby) Myers, Amy (Scott) Turnpaugh and Jim (Kristin) Hood; grandchildren Eric (Reese) Myers, Mackenzie Ilari, Cameron (Hannah) Ilari, Gracie, Kassidy, Taylor and Caitlyn Turnpaugh, Josh (Mallory) Hood, Hannah (Jonah) Wichman, Carter and Cooper Hood; great-grandchildren Madison, Sophie and Jaxson Myers, Charlotte, William and Robert Hood.
Visitation will be on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Alexander Funeral Home-Newburgh Chapel from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm and on Friday, April 10, 2026, beginning at 9:00 a.m. A Funeral Service will follow on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Eric Rawdon officiating.
