

She was a teacher at Bosse High School, Dexter Elementary, University of Evansville, and a counselor at Washington Middle School. The foundation of her life was her faith in Jesus Christ. Because of her faith, she had a passion for learning, studying and sharing God's word with others. Merle loved playing the piano and putting her faith into music. She wrote the Sing a Song of Praise album with Peggy Mitchell. Merle loved working with children of all ages and serving in the church.
She was a devoted mother and "Mimi" to her grandchildren and to all who knew her. Merle always had a smile and was loving and kind to all who crossed her path. She made an impact on so many lives because of her selflessness and love for others.
Merle was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Padgett and son, David Padgett.
She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Hampton (Mike) of Newburgh; son, Rob Padgett (Annie) of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Sarah Hampton, Rebekah (Kevin) Matznick, Leah Hampton, Jaden and Ariana Padgett; great grandchildren, Ellie and Hampton Matznick, and brother, John Miley (Carole) of Evansville.
A Funeral Service will be 4:00 p.m., Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, officiated by Pastor Cliff Herring. Family and friends may visit Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Private burial with take place in Alexander Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank Bell Oaks Place nurses, aides and staff for taking care of our mother and Gentiva Hospice for the quality care they provided her.
