At age 18 he worked at a steel mill in Gary, IN before enlisting in the US Army for two years. While in the Army, he was a medic and a driver for Army officers. He retired from Alcoa in 2010 after 40 years. Richard was a member of Crossroads Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Allen Ray, and sister, Sarah Dorroh.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Karen S. Ray; daughter, Pamela Lynn Ray of Huntington Beach, CA; sister, Anna Lee Phelps of Eddyville, KY and nieces and nephews.
A visitation was held 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday December 20, 2020 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261. Private entombment was held.
