He enjoyed farming and gardening.
Tom was preceded in death by his father; and son, Jesse Schmitt.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Schmitt; son, Calvin Schmitt; granddaughter, Lyla; mother, Dorothy Schmitt; brother, Tim Schmitt (Kathy), sisters, Vicki Loughrie (Jim), Jane Daywalt (John), Joan Fischer (Frank); and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel officiated by Rev. Bernie Etienne. Friends may visit 4:00 PM until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Out-of-town services were held on Friday, November 6, 2015, in Sharon Springs, Kansas.
