She attended Phelix High School and graduated from Marion High School, Class of 1972, where she earned academic honors and proudly served as a majorette. She later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northeastern University.
Delores devoted more than 40 years to Catholic Charities, where she touched countless lives and formed lifelong friendships with colleagues who became like family.
Delores was generous in spirit, always giving freely of her resources to help family and friends in need. She lovingly helped raise her siblings, nieces, nephews, and stepchildren, making sure they had school clothes, supplies, coats, graduation outfits, and anything else that was needed. Her greatest joy was her family, and she especially treasured her sister Ernestine, who preceded her in death. More than sisters, they were inseparable best friends—travel companions and confidantes whose bond was an inspiring example of love and devotion at its very best.
Delores loved to travel, enjoy good food and wine, and attend special events. She had an eye for Black art and sculpture, which she displayed beautifully in her home. She found peace in the view of Lake Michigan from her balcony, delighting in the sound of the waves and the cool evening breezes. Delores was a fan of any and all sports, but she especially loved her Chicago Bulls.
She leaves to cherish her memory five brothers and one sister: Silas (Alicia) Key, Robert (Glenda-Kay) Key, Joe Key of Jericho, Arkansas, John Key, Aaron Key of Chicago, Illinois, and Angelique Key Washington (Alton) of Collierville, Tennessee. Preceding her in death was her beloved sister and best friend, Ernestine Key McGrath. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will carry her spirit in their hearts forever.
A memorial visitation will be held for Delores on Saturday, September 27th, 2025 from 11:00 am until the time of the chapel service at 12:00 pm at Blake Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd Street in Oak Lawn, Illinois. For more information, please call 708-636-1193.
