When I called the Hagerty Irish Hour on Sat. mornings to ask for a radio mention of a Div. 32 Hibernian event. Jim answered the phone and was as pleasant as could be- and after I called twice- by the third time- he knew my voice and called me by name. That impressed me. 
So sorry to hear of his passing and May God Have Mercy on Jim and the souls of all the faithfully departed.

My condolences to the entire McGowan Family.  I knew Jim at Loyola University.  We "pledged" the Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity together.  Jim was a great friend.  I also had a crush on him for a while back then!  I remember that he liked the Steely Dan song, "Deacon Blue".  Deacon Blue played the saxophone just as Jim did.  I have many fond memories of Jim from the Loyola Days.  RIP Jim.

Dear McGowan Family; I am so sorry for Jim's passing. He was my first crush -when I was a kid! I told him that once and he was always very kind to me . So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He had stopped into my bakery a couple of times and we talked of his brother Frankie and his beautiful girls and wife, my cousin Annie. What a nice man ! R.I.P. And say hey to Frankie for us, we all miss our time in his dental chair !

Growing up, the McGowan name was brought up frequently as my dad so loved Frank Sr.. Jimmy had such a lively personality it was easy to have a conversation with him...He touched many lives I am sure. Our sympathies to Bridie, his children and his entire extended family.

Jim was a hard working man and a valued member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He served in a variety of elected offices, including a term as president of the John F. Kennedy Division (#59). Jim was a cheerful person. His smile and laugh will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
