He was the nicest guy I ever met and he was one of my heros. He was always a huge help and always above all a very good man. He will be forever be missed and my prayers goes out to his kids and whole family. 

I served with Jim in Vietnam with Charlie Co. First Bn, First Marine Regiment in 1967.  Jim was a  brave, courageous and  loyal Marine . A Valiant Warrior! 
Those of us who served with Jim and in years after the war who shared time with him at our reunions enjoyed being with Him and Terri.  
Jim was always faithful to his family,  and those of us who served with him . He was so proud to be Marine with Charlie Co.   He lived Semper Fidelis, it guided his life.
I was proud to know him and will miss our many conversations about our time in Vietnam and life .  I will miss him ! Part of us went with him to heaven but much of who he was will remain with all of us from Charlie Company  .

Terri, we know that you are going through a lot right now given the loss of Jim. As you know, Jim and I fought together in Vietnam including the Raid, along with many other fine Marines. All of us who knew Jim for the last 50 or so years knew him as a man of integrity, love for his family and love of the Lord. Through all of his trials and tribulations Jim faced adversity head long and with deep devotion to God, family and the Corps. As we know, he is now one of the few and the proud Marines, guarding heavens gates. He is a point man for the rest of us in Charlie 1/1 and we will forever be grateful for knowing him. He made our world a better place.

    A Marines Final Inspection

 The Marine stood and faced God
 Which must always come to pass

 He hoped his shoes were shining 
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward Marine, 
How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek? 
To My Church have you been true?"

The Marine squared his shoulders and said, 
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't

Because those of us who carry guns 
Can't always be a saint.

 I've had to work most Sundays 
And at times my talk was tough,

And sometimes I've been *violent,  -1
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny 
That wasn't mine to keep...

Though I worked a lot of overtime 
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help, 
Though at times I shook with fear,

And sometimes, God forgive me,
 I've wept unmanly tears.

*I know I don't deserve a place -2
Among the people here, 

They never wanted me around 
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord, 
It needn't be so grand,

I never expected or had too much, 
But if you don't, I'll understand."

There was a silence all around the throne 
Where the saints had often trod

As the Marine waited quietly, 
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward Marine, 
You've borne your burdens well,

Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,

My memories of Jim are mostly due to knowing is wife Terri for about the last 50+ years! Reason being Terri has been a close friend of my sister Paulette since childhood. Being that I'm a member of The Twisters, I had the pleasure of seeing and talking to Jim on many, many occasions as he and Terri would  come out to listen to some live oldies and have some fun. I will always remember Jim as being very polite, nice and fun loving.  A good man and I thank him for his courageous service to this Nation. May he rest in peace with the Lord.

We are friends from the old Oak Lawn baseball days.  Our son Bob Jr. played at the same time Jim Jr. did.  Both Jim Sr. & Bob Sr. were coaches.  We admired Jim so much as a veteran & hero,  as well as a baseball coach.  Our heartfelt condolences to Terry & 
the family, & all who loved James McNerney.  May God bless all! 🙏🏻☘🇺🇸

Dad I know you can’t read this but writing is my way of releasing my grief and sadness. You were the best father a child could ask for. You were always there. You always listened. You didn’t have a mean bone in your body. The love you had for not only humans but bugs and animals and all living creatures was amazing to observe. The kindness you displayed to everyone you met was so precious to see. I was so proud to introduce you to everyone as my dad!! Your love for family was remarkable and the love you had for mom was amazing to witness. The passion you both had for another was so lovely to watch over the years. You don’t make it 50 years together without the Lord. I love you daddy. I’ll miss you every day of my life. I’ll miss laughing with you but I know that I will see you one day in Heaven and what a joyous day that will be. Love you so incredibly much you absolutely marvelous man. 

I’m a sister in law of Terry’s ( Jim’s wife) I have to say marrying to a big family is not easy.   I have to say Jim always made me feel welcome no matter what.   I so respected that !     I always felt so welcome.    His family is so wonderful !  You are all in my prayers and he is at peace and is another great person in heaven.
