

Kathryn “Katie” E. Soraghan (née Powers), lovingly known as “Sweet Katie” to so many, passed away on February 8, 2026. A longtime resident of Chicago, IL and Oak Lawn, IL, Katie lived a life rooted in kindness, family, and genuine warmth.Born on February 13, 1949, to the late John and Roseanne Powers, Katie’s name truly reflected who she was a sweet, welcoming soul who embraced new family members and friends with open arms. She was loved deeply and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Katie was a passionate educator who dedicated her career to shaping young lives. After earning her Master’s Degree in Teaching from St. Xavier University, she became a longtime, devoted Chicago Public School teacher at Marquette Grammar School. Teaching was not just her profession, but her calling, and she took great pride in helping children learn and grow.
Katie leaves to cherish her memory her devoted sons: Peter (Ann Marie) Soraghan, Kevin (Barbara) Soraghan, and Patrick (Jennifer) Soraghan. She was a beloved Nana to her ten grandchildren and a proud and adored Gigi to her great-grandchild. She is also survived by her loving sister, Rosalie Witasik, and was preceded in death by her siblings Michael Powers and Judy Boyle. Kathryn was blessed with a lifelong friendship with Mary Kay Bulow and was also a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
An avid reader, Katie found joy and comfort in books and treasured quiet moments spent reading. She had a special love for her cat, Bella, who was a constant companion. Katie also cherished traveling with her sisters, Judy and Rosalie, creating memories filled with laughter, love, and adventure.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd Street, Oak Lawn, IL.
Morning prayers will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Linus Parish, 10300 Lawler Avenue, Oak Lawn, IL 60453.
Committal services will conclude at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 6001 W. 111th Street, Alsip, IL 60803.
Kathryn’s kindness, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for her family will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
