Lawrence Key

Lawrence Key, 61 years of age, passed away on July 23, 2025, at the University of Chicago Hospital after a short but aggressive illness. Lawrence was born on September 27, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late John Wesley Key and Corene Key, who both preceded him in death. He was the second oldest of four siblings.

Lawrence was educated at Thornton Township High School and joined the U.S. Army in 1986, where he served for 10 years. His profession was as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), a role he took very seriously, as he loved helping others.

Lawrence professed his life to Christ at an early age. He married Tonya in 2012, surrounded by friends and family.

He loved listening to music and enjoyed being in the presence of his many friends and family. He often mentioned that people would always call him for advice.

Lawrence leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Tonya; his brother Leonard (Trinette); sister Sandra (Carl); and brother Tracey. His children: Lawrence Key Jr., Mario Jordon Hassell (Marissa), Quentin Key, and Mia Key. Grandchildren: Savannah Hassell, Immar Hassell, Samir Hassell, and Zoey Iris Key. He is also survived by a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
