I've had the privilege to work with Matt at avant.  He was a great CEO who lead us through some tough times as a company and as a person always solicited feedback and honest conversations. 

May Matt's memory be a blessing.

I am so sorry to hear this news. I spent 4 years with Avant and Matt was a picture of a leader that I had always imagined. Caring, focused, challenging, and dedicated to the business and people. Even after I left Matt B was one of those people who i knew would make sure Avant was seen as a leader in the Fintech world and among the employees. 

My prayers to his family, friends, and coworkers during this time.

Matt, thank you for all the memories. You were kind, thoughtful and deeply caring. You would always take time to build real connections with everyone on the team and make them feel special and welcome. You genuinely looked out for us, not just as a leader, but as a human being. Thank you for being there for me when I needed it the most, as a boss and more importantly, as a friend. 

I have learned a lot from you on how to be a better leader and a better person in the 10+ years we had known each other and I will be forever grateful that our paths crossed in this lifetime. You will be dearly missed.

Was very fortunate to work with Matt when he first stepped into the CEO role at AVANT. He was a wonderful leader and a light to everyone in the office. He will be missed, condolences to his family who he spoke so highly of.

I’m absolutely heartbroken to hear this news.

Just seeing Matt around the office was motivating. He inspired all of us at Avant to show up and give our best every single day.

I’m so thankful for everything he did—for leading us through both the tough times and the good, and for giving me the opportunity to be part of Avant. That chance laid the foundation for my career, and I’ll always be grateful for it.

What I’ll remember most is how real and approachable he was. He had this authenticity that made you feel like you could talk to him about anything. And his energetic smile—it could light up the whole room.

You were a real gem, and it was such an honor to know you. Since 2014, I’ve gotten to know you, laugh with you, learn from you, and appreciate you for you. Thank you for being a great leader and motivator. I'm grateful for every thoughtful check-in, encouraging note, and word of wisdom. You taught me to always focus on the big picture, not what’s in front of me now, but where I’m headed. “Position yourself for the future AJ”. That conversation from 2016 and many others have stuck with me ever since. I am going to miss your not-so-subtle way of telling me not to worry LOL. You could always tell when a pep talk was needed. Talking to you was easy, partly because of your smile but mostly because of your sense of humor. As tall as you were and as deep as your voice was, your presence commanded and calmed the room. Not just because of your title, but because of who you were at your core and the connections you made with everyone. I am going to miss you and will keep my promise to kick butt in 2025.

Thank you for everything you did for my career and for our friendship. You were born to Lead and you did that with brilliance everyday. You kept in touch with me over the years and brought me back to Avant to play a Lead role in the company and for that I am ever grateful. You had an amazing EQ and IQ and you strived to bring out the best in yourself and everyone around you. Very few people that can be your Boss and a great friend at the same time and you did that with me and many others.
You truly built something really special in your personal and professional life. My warmth and condolences to your family. I will miss you Matt and look forward to our pint on the other side.

I met Matt only about a year or so ago. I admired and really liked him almost instantly. He was a real stand-up guy and an amazing partner. He loved Avant and his Team deeply. And we could have easily been close friends even if we hadn’t been close business partners. 
Matt’s passing away is amongst the saddest things we have experienced in a long time.

Rest in peace, Matt.  Thank you for all the good times and for everything you taught me over the past 12 years.  You showed me what it truly means to lead with integrity and heart.  I hope you knew how much you meant to me, not just as a boss, but as a close friend and mentor.  I'm really going to miss you.  I'm forever grateful for the time we had together, and I know I'll see you again someday.

I worked with Matt from the earliest days at Avant and it became immediately obvious how easily he connected and made impact on people. I looked up to his abilities in that area from the time we met. The business would go on to grow and support so many customers and employees and Matt was always so devoted to such a large group of people. I noticed as he felt more and more comfort in his role or calling. As I read through condolences and look at the photos it is extremely obvious that this was Matt across the entire spectrum of his life. We pray for his family and hold the grief with all who mourn his loss. Rest in Peace, Matt.

My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Matt's friends, family, and loved ones. It is never easy losing someone, and it is with a heavy heart that I write this. As colleagues, meetings, gatherings, and time at the office will never be the same. Matt embodied the definition of the Avant value, AUTHENTICITY. There was never a time when we passed each other in the office without him taking a moment to speak. Even as the CEO, I never felt small around him, and he was the first to congratulate me on a promotion before I even knew I received one. Avant was blessed to have someone of Matt's caliber, and to say he will be missed is an understatement. I think the most important thing we can take away from this astronomical tragedy is to love and appreciate each other more.

  I am so sorry for the devastating loss of a great man. My tribute to Matt:

Matt Bochenek, the gentile humble giant!
Large in stature and even a bigger heart.
The man who captured my niece Lauren’s heart.
The family orientated man and great provider.
The man who introduced Al and I to our best friends in his parents.
The man who fathered the most loving great nieces.  
The man who coached his daughters in sports!
The man who literally saved my life with the Heimlich maneuver.
The man loved and respected by many.
The man in which I thought of as a son and I will always love and greatly miss.

When I first heard about Matt’s passing I along with every other Avantee sat in shock and disbelief. I don’t think the finality of it all registered for a few hours, but then the pings started coming from co-workers and friends as we shared old pics, memories and sadness at the loss we all felt. However, as I sat in a meeting listening to Matt’s friend Loren speak about their relationship and kind of their professional history, a scripture in Proverbs came into my spirit: Proverbs 18:16; “A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men.”
How grateful I feel because I witnessed God’s word manifest in Matt’s life as I reflect on his time at Avant. Yes he was very good at his job, but I also quietly witnessed the growth and maturity that happens when you choose to honor your calling. Matt honored his calling of service to others, I can personally attest as I was on the receiving end of that service, I received it in patience, grace, respect and kindness and it has had a profound impact on my life and I am grateful.

And to Matt’s beautiful family, while I am a believer who processes loss differently, I won’t offer empty words of comfort because I know in this moment they aren’t helpful, the weight of Matt’s absence is likely the heaviest sorrow you’ve ever experienced and you likely feel so weak under the pressure, however, I am also inspired by God’s word that reminds us that His grace is sufficient because His power is perfect when we are weak. I implore you to lean into your weakness and your grief so that you may at some point feel the power of God carrying you through with the love and support that will surround you.
