Velva D. Groszek, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully at Summerlin Hospital on April 2, 2026, at the age of 85, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 2, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, Velva lived a life centered on love, family, and kindness.
Velva is survived by her devoted husband of 29 years, Gene, whose partnership brought her great joy. She was a proud and loving mother to Jack Waryck, Janet (the late Arthur) Martinucci, James (Alta) Waryck, Joan (Nick) Nazario, Ken Groszek, Steve (Pam) Groszek, and Cathy Groszek. Her legacy continues through her eight grandchildren: Jeremy (Jen) Waryck, Jonathon (Kelly) Martinucci, Laura Waryck, Jeanna (Jason) Cristino, Jordan Nazario, Nikkole Nazario, Margaret Groszek, and Elizabeth Groszek.
She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Bruce Searle, Everett and Jacob Martinucci, Juliana Waryck, and Knox Montanez -each of whom brought her immense pride and happiness.
Velva worked at Decorel, a picture frame manufacturer in Mundelein, Illinois, while raising her four children. She began in the shipping department, later moved into the front office, and eventually became the Trade Show Manager, a role that allowed her to travel, something she truly enjoyed.
Her love of travel grew even more after meeting the man of her life, Gene. Upon retirement, Velva and Gene settled in Las Vegas, where they embraced a peaceful and joyful life together. They loved hiking, playing bingo, and spending quiet days on their patio feeding the birds.
Velva had a deep love for nature and delighted in every opportunity to be outdoors, often hugging as many trees as she could along the way. She was always smiling and had a special gift for making others feel loved and valued. Velva was, in every sense, a beautiful soul—truly a wonderful angel.
Velva was preceded in death by her parents, Charlene and John Spiegl; her brother, Robert Spiegl; her sister-in-law, Justine Spiegl; her sister, Lyla Borowiec; and her grandchild, Julie Waryck.
