

Adela was born on June 22, 1937 in Exeter, California and has been a lifetime resident of Vista, California since moving here in the early 1940's. Adela attended school in Vista from elementary to high school. During her lifetime she was a homemaker while her children were young and she retired from the Vista Unified School District where she held several positions including noon duty aide at Santa Fe Elementary, she worked in the bilingual and migrant education program and also as an instructional aide where reading and art were her favorite subjects to share with her students.
Adela enjoyed socializing with her childhood friends and with her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren who were the light of her life. Her hobbies included reading (a member of Doubleday Book Club), creating flower arrangements (she did flowers for many weddings and other events), traveling such as excursions with Culture Caravan and Vista Senior Center, watching Lifetime movies and having her morning cup of coffee with a danish. Adela was very caring, gentle and loving . She greeted everyone with a smile. A smile that will be greatly missed by all.
Adela is preceded in death by her husband Raymond M. Maya and son Raymond T. Maya and brother Justo Castaneda and Chavel Castaneda.
Adela is survived by her children Catherine Maya, Ralph Maya, Gilbert Maya, Christine Patterson and Victoria Maya; Sisters Lupe Martinez, Lydia Flores and Aurora Zamora and brothers Albert Castaneda and Alphonso Castaneda and by her 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family who will hold her memory in their hearts.
The family would like to thank Lifecare Center of America, Vista and The Elizabeth Hospice, Escondido for their comfort, care and support.
