Following a marriage to her first husband, Matthew G. Homer Sr, she gave birth to 3 children. Her first child was a daughter Denise (Deceased), and her two sons Matthew, and Ronald. Shortly after Ronald's birth the family moved to Southern California from Chicago where Barbara and her husband purchased a new home in Buena Park. A few years later Barbara and Matthew divorced. Barbara and her kids moved to Costa Mesa where she lived for the next 15 years with Barbara working as a cashier at the Disneyland Hotel. She worked at the hotel for the next 22 years.
While working at the Hotel she met and married her 2nd husband Robert Casement (Bob). They were married for 28 years until his passing on January 24, 1999. Barbara really loved Bob and he loved her. They got along great and early in their marriage enjoyed bowling, were on a team and bowled every Tuesday night. The enjoyed going to Mexico and Las Vegas to vacation and loved boating.
After retiring Barb and Bob bought a motor home and did extensive traveling throughout the USA and Canada. They spent weeks traveling during the year and met many friends in the HMC motor home club.
Bob passed away in January 1999. After Bob’s passing, Barbara invited her son Ron, who was living in Portland, to move down and live with her in Oceanside. The move turned out to be great for both of them because Ron no longer able to work due to a spinal injury was able to have someone to assist with his living expenses and Barbara, now in her 80's, had help with the chores around the house and security of having a man in the house at nights.
In May of this year Barbara went into the hospital to have a simple angioplasty procedure on her left leg. During the procedure another artery in her abdomen was torn and she incurred complications from the bleeding artery which led several hours later to her stroke.
Barbara spent months in skilled nursing facilities undergoing rehab, speech and physical therapy. But it became apparent she would not be able to overcome the effects of the stroke. At this point she was paralyzed and could not speak or eat. She was on a feeding tube and oxygen. Barbara, her sons and her physicians made a decision to place her into hospice on September 14. She died three days later on Friday morning September 17th at 7:40 AM.
Her son Ron was at her bedside holding her hand, comforting and reading prayers to her as she took her last breath.
Barbara left behind her 2 sons; Matthew and Ronald Homer and her 2 step children; KC and Steve Casement. She also left behind many friends she cared deeply for and whom cared for her. Her best friend Donna lived next door and they would talk every day. I know Donna misses her and she misses Donna. Barbara loved her family and friends and they loved her. She was an emotional rock to many and always had the time to listen to when her friends and family needed to talk.
