He was a Civil/Defense sector commander until he joined the Army Air Corps in 1942. After WWII he was in the reserves and then in 1950 was recalled by the Air force for the Korean conflict.
On September 8, 1946 he married Shirley Schley in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Madly in love through their whole lives until her death in 2010.
He had many careers ranging from drill sergeant to small business owner.. However, his favorites were always creative and precision endeavors like building furniture or photography. He loved his family, music, art, and jokes both good and bad.
He is survived by 3 siblings, 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Stories
As a child he had no money, but did have resourcefulness. So, he scrounged up used wood and built a shoe-shine box. He hit the streets with his new creation to earn some cash. Why? He wanted to buy Flowers for his mom on Mother's Day.
While looking for his discharge papers I found an envelope ;marked "personal!"
Inside were love letters written to his wife after she passed away. Truly an abiding love. Tellingly, filed right next to it was a folder of jokes
