Ben was the second of eight children born to Buenaventura Sr. and Teresa Burlaza. His early years were filled with joy, swimming and fishing in the warm waters of Tambobong alongside his siblings, family, and friends. Ben graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Medicine from Far Eastern University and later obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from Manila Central University in 1976. Ben dedicated much of his early career to practicing medicine, bringing healing and compassion to countless patients in Dasol. In 1985, Ben and his wife, Zeny, immigrated to San Diego, California, where they would spend the rest of their lives together.
Ben was a man of many passions who preferred to stay busy. He found joy and tranquility in gardening, often cultivating bountiful vegetable harvests from his home garden. Ben was also an avid fisherman who relished the quiet moments spent at the pier and the camaraderie of fellow fishermen. Above all, Ben cherished time with his family, drawing immense pride and happiness from their love and togetherness.
Ben is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Zeny, their son and daughter, and four grandchildren, all of whom will miss him dearly. His legacy of patience, generosity, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
A memorial service and visitation will be held on Saturday, June 8, at 8 a.m. at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside, CA.
