Charles “Chuck” Messenger
Charles Messenger was born in Simsbury, CT on January 13, 1934 to Raymond and Gladys Messenger; he was one of nine children.
In 1953 Charles enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and proudly served for 20 years, honorably retiring in 1973. His service for the country included multiple tours of duty during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He had a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) as a turret mechanic during most of his service. After his honorable discharge he worked as a mechanic for the Encina Wastewater Authority.
Charles met his future wife, Mary Madeline McWilliams in 1957 at a military dance in Washington D.C. They were married on February 7, 1959 and shared 51 wonderful years together as husband and wife. They had four children: Michael, Christopher, Scott and Alison.
Although he loved all sports his favorite pastimes were golf, bowling and fishing. He loved to spend time with friends and family sharing in these activities. He also loved teaching people how to golf and fish. Charles also loved to tell a good story, and much of his time was spent sharing stories with friends and family.
Charles is survived by his wife Mary, his sons Michael, Christopher and Scott, his daughter Alison and his grandchildren Thomas, Laurel and Anna.
Charles worked hard throughout his entire life to provide for his family. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
