Cheryl Marie Quintana, 65, of Carlsbad, CA, passed away from a rare, very aggressive cancer after a five-month battle on January 16, 2024. Cheryl was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, and she will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
Cheryl Marie Mallory was born on September 24, 1958, in Seguin, TX, to Lester and Ruth Mallory, the second of three daughters. She grew up in Whittier, CA, surrounded by her family who all lived nearby. While working at Hughes Aircraft Company as an Administrative Assistant in Santa Fe Springs, CA, she met her future husband Richard, and they married in 1987. One year later they moved to Plano, TX, where they welcomed two of their daughters, Christine and Erica. Six years after moving to Plano, and six months pregnant, Cheryl and her family moved to Webster, NY, where they welcomed their third daughter, Kathleen. After ten years away from close relatives, Cheryl, Richard and their three daughters moved back to California, settling in Carlsbad. She viewed each move as an adventure and cultivated lifelong friendships at each stop. Cheryl decided to be a stay-at-home mom after their first daughter was born and was actively involved in their numerous school and extracurricular activities. For the past 34 years, she loved watching her daughters grow, continue their education, and build their lives.
Cheryl loved being outdoors, especially working in her garden and tending to her hummingbirds. She had a love of fishing from an early age and enjoyed all outdoor activities, especially if it involved sand and water. She took great pride in her plumerias, which she acquired from her numerous trips to Hawaii, and loved to cook, not afraid to try new recipes on a regular basis. In addition to being a supportive partner to her husband and role model to her daughters, her caring and loving personality made her the unique individual she was.
Cheryl is survived by her loving husband Richard, her three daughters, Christine, Erica, and Kathleen, her son-in-law Joshua Walters, her two sisters Leslie Bachman and Denise Arnce, brother-in-law Michael, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Lester Mallory and her mother Ruth Mallory Cooney.
A viewing for Cheryl will be held from 4 to 8 PM on February 12 with services to be held on February 13 at 1PM, both at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside, CA. Burial to take place at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, CA.
