

Darlene Blozan, a vibrant and accomplished woman who lived a full and inspiring life, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 surrounded by her four children on June 6, 2024, in Carlsbad, California. Born on December 16, 1927, in Burkburnett, Texas, her family moved to Banning, California when she was a young girl. Darlene envisioned a life beyond her horizon. After graduating high school, she moved to Westwood, California, where she had dreams of becoming an actress. It was there in the exciting heart of Hollywood that she met the love of her life, Bill Blozan. The couple shared a beautiful and loving marriage that spanned 44 years until Bill’s passing in 1992.
Darlene’s journey in life was marked by curiosity and a commitment to personal growth. After raising her four children, she enrolled in college in her 50’s, demonstrating an inspiring dedication to learning and self-improvement. She earned her bachelor's degree in Psychology and then completed an M.A. in Public Administration. This academic achievement marked a new chapter in her life, leading her to pursue a career in real estate where she excelled and became a trusted agent, known for her integrity and dedication to her clients.
Equally passionate about giving back to her community, Darlene was an active volunteer well into her later years. She volunteered at the Riverside Community Players; Riverside Municipal Museum; La Costa Tennis Tournament and the Carlsbad City Library Dove Bookstore.
Darlene’s zest for life was matched by her love for adventure. She was an avid traveler, exploring the corners of the world with a sense of wonder and appreciation for different cultures. Her travels took her to Great Britain, Central Europe, Mexico and Australia where she made countless memories and friends along the way.
For the past 23 years, Darlene resided in Carlsbad where she continued to live a vibrant and active life. Darlene was always an avid reader and she nurtured a passion for writing. She authored a plethora of short stories and was an active participant in the Writers’ Group at the Carlsbad Senior Center. She cherished her fellow writers and was referred to as brilliant by her closest friend. Her grandsons taught her to text which Darlene did daily with her family; she played Sudoku; watched all types of movies, tennis matches, and the Padres; and ordered her groceries online. She was amazing!
Her home was a gathering place filled with laughter and love. Darlene is survived by her four children Cristine (Bill) Slikker, William Blozan, Nick (Dyan) Blozan and Elizabeth Blozan; five grandchildren Annamarie Slikker (Josh) Martin and William (Cammie) Slikker, Jake Blozan, Zach Blozan and Jack Blozan; and three great-grandchildren Sloane Slikker, Odin Slikker and Vincent Martin. She is also survived by her stepson, nieces & nephews, and close friends. Darlene will be inurned next to her husband Bill in Riverside, CA.
Darlene Blozan’s family will remember her as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who instilled in them the values of kindness, perseverance, and the importance of following one’s dreams. Darlene had a warm and gentle way with her children, grandchildren, & greats - always finding a way to let them know that they were loved. They will never forget the meaningful conversations on every manner of topic from history, economics, politics, sports, or reminiscing over her own past experiences. Her family will miss those great conversations but are thankful for all the writings she left them. While Darlene will be dearly missed by her family and friends, they take comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on in the many lives she touched. Rest in peace, dear Darlene. Your life was a beautiful journey, and your light will continue to shine in the hearts of those who knew and loved you!
