David Harvey Cooper, 81, passed away on May 15, 2016 after a short illness. David was born in 1934 in Reading, England to Eric Harvey Cooper and Ivy Irene Champion. After graduating from King's Bruton School and serving in the Royal Air Force, David met his beautiful bride, Sheila Rose Ellen Martin. They were married on March 29, 1958 in Reading, England. David always had a thirst for education and decided to enroll at Penn State University in the Masters of Engineering program, beginning his and Sheila's new adventure in the United States. During this time, David and Sheila welcomed their first child, Stephen. After graduating in 1969, David began a long and successful career as an engineer and executive, mostly in the medical and dental fields. Shortly after graduation, David's career took his family across the country to San Diego where they welcomed their second child, Christine. Soon thereafter, a new opportunity arose in the Bay Area where David and Sheila raised their family. David's work allowed him to travel the world, exposing his family to many wonderful places. In the mid-1990's, David and Sheila relocated to Carlsbad, CA. David spent the next 10 years traveling back and forth to Chicago when he finally retired from DENTSPLY in 2004. Retirement certainly didn't mean David would slow down! After having both knees replaced, there was no stopping him. David and Sheila continued their love of travel, traveling through Asia and Europe along with many trips to their timeshare in Kauai. Golf was a passion (and frustration!) and David very much enjoyed his membership at La Costa Golf Club. His love of design was also prominent in his retirement, designing furniture and clock cases. David was on the go until the very end, out running most around him. He is dearly loved and will be missed terribly. David is preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife Sheila, son Stephen, daughter Christine and sister Beryl along with 7 nieces and nephews and 4 great-nephews. A public Celebration of Life will be held at Eternal Hills Mortuary in Oceanside on Saturday, June 11 at 10:00am. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, KS 66675 or Online.
