Earl Dean Mills, 78, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died of cancer at the UCSD Medical Center in La Jolla on July 3rd. His long battle with the disease spanned several years but he never complained or lost his faith. Family members gathered often in his hospital room and were with him during his final days.
Mr. Mills was born in Wichita, Kansas, and was the fourth of five children. When his family moved to a dairy farm near Arlington Kansas, he and his siblings milked cows, raised crops, and did farm chores before and after school. Despite these responsibilities, Mr. Mills managed to participate in high school football, basketball, and track, and was president of his 1962 graduating class.
He began his career in computer-related applications, advancing to Systems Analyst and Project Manager for large software installations. Always, however, was a passion for photography. While living in West Virginia, Mr. Mills was able to start his own photography business. Over time he developed a unique blend of photography and digital art, resulting in many awards, ribbons, and special honors. His work was showcased in multiple galleries, perhaps most notably Antietam Gallery in Sharpsburg, Maryland.
His kind and gentle spirit, his deep love of family, and love for God were deeply ingrained. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Marsha Mills of Vista, CA; two sons, Marty Mills of San Marcos, CA, and Brett Mills, of San Diego; and four grandchildren, Daniel Mills of Strasburg, Virginia, Dominic Mills of Amissville, Virginia, and Kirra and Kailyn Mills of San Marcos, CA.
