She was born and raised in Carlsbad, California and later moved to Vista and then Oceanside. She is survived by her two brothers, Daniel and Tom and two sisters, Esper and Vera.
Betty enjoyed, more than anything, being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was blessed with three daughters, Christina, Kathy and Sylvia and one son, Joey. She had 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was proud of each and every one of them.
Betty worked for the Vista Unified School District for 18 years, where she assisted students with special needs. She truly loved what she did and formed many special bonds with the students with whom she worked. She retired in June 1990.
There was nothing Betty enjoyed more than spending time with her family and friends. She looked forward to lunch and movie dates with her daughters, grandchildren and friends. She met up regularly with friends to play cards, eat and catch up on the latest gossip. Betty loved to travel and talked fondly of her trip to Italy with her cousin Adele.
In addition to being surrounded by loved ones, Betty also appreciated her quiet time. She loved to read and would often stay up all night to finish a good book. When there was a good show on T.V. that she wanted to watch, she would make sure she was home by the time it started and tell her kids not to call during that time. There was no DVR then.
Betty was an avid sports fan. From watching her son Joey play football and baseball to watching her grandchildren play various sports, she was always there cheering them on. She was their biggest fan. She was also a true supporter of her local sports teams, the San Diego Chargers and Padres, no matter what the scoreboard showed.
Betty was a selfless person. She was always more concerned with the well-being of others over that of herself. She wanted to ensure that she was not a burden on others, even to the very end. She prayed daily for the health and happiness of those around her. She believed deeply in the power of prayer and probably prayed at one point or another for each and every one of you here today. In her last few days, I am sure she continued to pray and those prayers have taken her home.
