Flora Barajas, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on December 15, 2024, surrounded by her family. Born on January 20, 1936, in Santa Maria Miramar, Michoacán, Flora was the eldest of five siblings and had twin half-brothers.
At the young age of 15, Flora married the love of her life, Julian Barajas, on June 4, 1951. Together, they built a family rooted in love, resilience, and unity. Though their first child passed away shortly after birth, Flora went on to raise eight children with unwavering dedication, nurturing them with love and care.
In 1952, Flora and Julian moved to Tijuana, where Flora owned and managed a tortilla shop alongside her sisters. In 1960, the family was sponsored by Julian’s employer to move to California, where they began a new chapter. When Julian injured his back, Flora stepped forward to support the family, working at a greenhouse until her retirement.
Flora taught herself English by watching television and found joy in Major League Baseball, though she often joked that the games made her nervous. She loved cheering for her Padres and Chargers but often got up from the couch cause their play would make her angry. At home, her children were always her first priority, and she wanted nothing but the best for them. She taught her daughter Alma how to crochet, creating cherished moments filled with laughter and warmth.
Flora’s life revolved around her family and her passions. She loved cooking, especially on Sundays, when her home would fill with the chatter of her children and grandchildren. Her baby blankets, lovingly crocheted for each grandchild and great-grandchild, are treasured keepsakes.
Flora was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Julian, her sisters Mela and Ramona, her youngest sibling José, her parents Jesús and Eloisa Guerrero, and her firstborn child. She is survived by her eight children, 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and her sister Chuy. In 1999, Flora proudly became a U.S. citizen, a testament to her determination and love for her adopted country. She remained a pillar of strength and love for her family, always sitting with them at dinner to share stories and laughter. Her beautiful smile and caring presence will be dearly missed. Her love of flowers, cooking, and crocheting reflected her gentle, giving nature. She will forever be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother who filled her home with love, warmth, and the aroma of her delicious meals.
A celebration of Flora’s remarkable life will be held om January 3rd, 2025 at 8AM at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. Her family invites those who knew and loved her to join in honoring her memory and the profound impact she had on all who knew her.
