Frances Corning was born in La Jolla, California, to Hulon and Mary Jones. As a Marine family, they moved frequently before settling in Oceanside, California where Frances spent her childhood. She attended South Oceanside Elementary and graduated from Oceanside High School in 1967. During her high school years, Frances was a vibrant presence, serving as both the Queen of Job’s Daughters and the Homecoming Queen. While in high school, Frances befriended country music star Barbara Mandrell and had the honor of being a bridesmaid in Barbara's wedding—a memory she cherished throughout her life.
Frances pursued her education at Cal State Fullerton before meeting the love of her life, John Corning. They were married in November 1969 at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea in Oceanside, California. Just two weeks after their wedding, John left for Vietnam to fulfill his draft duty with the Army. Frances is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, John Corning, and their loving children: Julie (Richard) King, Jana (Justin) Ruben, Mary (Bryon) Penfield, and Johnny (Kelly) Corning. She was the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren: Rebecca, Madison, Tyler, Samantha, Ryan, Dylan, Charley, Jordan, Sienna, Savannah, and Penny.
Frances had a deep love for children and animals, and her compassionate heart led her to serve as a short-term foster parent to many children, from infants to teenagers. She had a fulfilling career with Jazzercise Corporate Office from 1987 to 2006. Frances was known for her vibrant personality and her love of dancing. She enjoyed hosting parties at her home, where she was always the life of the party, encouraging everyone to join her on the dance floor. Her energy and enthusiasm brought joy to everyone around her. She also had a passion for fashion and creativity, enjoying jewelry-making, baking Syrian bread, and crocheting countless blankets that she generously gifted to family, friends, and those in need. She also loved playing Yahtzee and traveling.
In her later years, Frances faced the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease with strength and grace, surrounded by the unwavering love and care of her family. Though her memory faded, her radiant spirit, compassion, and the beautiful legacy she left behind will always be cherished by those who knew her. Frances’s warmth, generosity, and zest for life will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
