Genevieve, daughter of Frank and Stella Taunis, immigrants of Lithuania, was born in Rockford, Illinois. She was a graduate of the NY Pratt Art Institute, San Jose State University, and Claremont Graduate School, where she followed her dreams of creating artistic designs in watercolors, batiks, tapestries, and collages after her retirement as an elementary and art teacher for 27 years in the Rialto Unified School District in California. She moved to Laguna Beach where she displayed and sold many of her works of art while she enjoyed living in this artistic and ocean community. She found enjoyment in traveling around the world during teaching sabbaticals and after retirement.
Genevieve moved to San Diego County in Oceanside to be closer to her youngest daughter, Jeanne and son-in-law, Dave. During a decline in health over the last 5 years, mother and daughter bonded in special ways that they had never done before. She is also survived by her daughter Gail who lives in Germany, her son Mark who lives in Auburn, one grandson, David, and a great-grandson, Tyler. In her final hours her close friends and family were at her side encouraging her to be free of all worries and to find that special resting place where she could continue to perform and enjoy her creative artistic magic. She was a loving mother and friend and we will all miss her beautiful smile, laugh, and wonderful sense of humor. She requested that her ashes be released in the ocean near Laguna Beach where her immediate family and friends will fulfill her wishes.
