Gregory Walter Quillin, (62), of Vista, California, passed away on August 11, 2023, after fighting a 2-year long year battle against cancer. Greg was born to Gaylord Walter Quillin and Elaine Marilyn Quillin (Farrell), on September 30, 1960, in Norfolk, Virginia. He joined the United States Navy at the age of 19 and retired from the USN after 20 years of honorable service in 2000. In high school he enjoyed being on the swimming and wrestling teams, as well as driving his 1965 Mercury Comet. As an adult, his love of cars continued through his love of NASCAR. He enjoyed bowling in a league and with his friends, woodworking, barbequing and working on cars. Greg would always refer to the family cabin in Mammoth Mountain as his “happy place”, as he enjoyed spending his vacation time fishing and restoring the historic cabin.
Greg is survived by his three children, Nathan, Derrick, and Brittany; and five grandchildren, William, Joshua, Jennifer, Emily, and Teague. He is also survived by his parents, Gaylord and Elaine, as well as his brothers Blaine, Doug, Shawn, and Lincoln, and his sister Melanie. Greg is predeceased by his wife, Nancy, and his sister, Valerie.
Greg’s family will host a funeral service on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. The service will be at Eternal Hills Mortuary, in Oceanside.
