Harvey was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 15, 1924 and passed away peacefully with his family by his side on December 7, 2012. He would have been 88 years old. Harvey had 3 brothers and twin sisters. All except his younger brother, Dr. Marty Ferman, are deceased. Harvey married his childhood sweetheart, Faye Goodrich. After more than 50 years of marriage, she passed away from lung cancer in 1996. To Harvey's good fortune, he met and married Betty Jean Fowler in 1997. They have been married for more than 15 years.
Harvey entered the Army when he was 18 years old and spent more than 50 years involved in military activities. He was involved in WWII building bridges, highways or whatever needed to be done. He received many medals and awards including the Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, two Medals of Merit, a medal for his bravery at the Normandy Invasion in France, and several others. He was either president, vice president, commander, chairman, or member for several different military organizations such as the MOAA, MOWW, VFW, American Legion, Retired Officers Association, and the AUSA to name a few.
As a civilian, he worked for Gary Transit as General Superintendent, Santa Monica Municipal Bus Lines as Maintenance Superintendent, and San Mateo County Transit District as Director of Transit Operations. Harvey became a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology in 1988 from Northwestern International University.
He is sorely missed by his family and friends. We want to thank everyone for attending his services and celebration of his life.
God saw he was getting tired, and a cure
Was not to be; so he put His arms around
him, and whispered, “Come with me.”
With tearful eyes we watched him suffer,
and saw him fade away;
Although we loved him dearly, we could
not make him stay. A golden heart
stopped beating, hard working hands to
rest; God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the Best!
