

Helen, one of 12 children, was born Helen Lina Fleshman on March 5, 1920 in Fresno, California. Helen was pre-deceased by Ray her husband of 51 years. She is survived by her brother Edwin, her sons Frederick, Ronald, Stephen and James, and her daughter Patricia Tarling. She has 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A college graduate, Helen served as a Navy volunteer in the WAVES during World War II where she met Ray, her future husband, who was also in the Navy at the time.
A fantastic wife and dedicated mother, she was an energetic stay at home mother, always there for her family. She was also a talented seamstress who made beautiful clothing for kids all the way up to wedding dresses. She enjoyed needlework, sewing, and gardening.
A very devout Catholic, she and Ray were some of the original founders of St. Thomas More Church in Oceanside. In the early days, sometimes services were held in Ray and Helen's home.
Her family misses her a lot, but know that she is at peace with God after a wonderful life.
There will be a viewing and rosary on August 17 at 7:00 pm at Eternal Hills Cemetery in Oceanside. Her funeral mass will be at 11:00 am on August 18, at St. Thomas More, immediately followed by a reception at the church. A graveside service will be held on August 19 at 10:00 am at Eternal Hills. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name can be sent to St. Thomas More Church, the American Cancer Society, or Hospice by the Sea in Carlsbad.
