Iris Cerda

BORN: SEPTEMBER 9, 1945

ENTERED ETERNITY: JANUARY 19, 2014

Iris was born in Glasgow, Scotland on September 9, 1945 to James & Jennette (Docherty) Crawford.

Stepfather, Joseph McCarthy and mother Jennette, raised her along with two brothers, Robert Crawford and James McCarthy.

She grew up in Scotland and became a sewing machinist. At the age of twenty, she was sponsored by an American family, came to the United States and became their “Nanny” for several years. During this time she would on occasion visit a friend also from Scotland, living in Oceanside. Eventually she made Oceanside her home. She met Robert Cerda in the mid seventies and they had been together ever since. She became a part of the Cerda family and is known to all the grandchildren as “Nana Iris”.

Nana Iris was caring, loving and giving, she was friendly, straightforward and honest. She loved visiting her homeland Scotland. Her favorite hobby was knitting; she enjoyed making all the grandchildren blankets, sweaters, hats and booties.

She is predeceased by stepfather, Joseph McCarthy, mother, Jeanette McCarthy, brothers, Robert Crawford and James McCarthy, brother-in –laws, Henry, Daniel, Gilbert, Eddie and Frank Cerda, sister-in-laws, Mary (Cerda) Rios, Virginia (Cerda) Martinez and grandsons, David Cerda Jr. and Aaron Walker.

She is survived by husband, Robert Cerda, stepchildren, Robert (Chrystal) Cerda, Ralph (Becky) Cerda, David (Blanca) Cerda, Michael (Jo Marie) Cerda and Andrew (Sheryl) Cerda, eighteen grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

She is also survived by brother-in-laws, Richard, Freddie and Philip Cerda, sister-in-laws, Helen (Cerda) Preciado and Ena McCarthy, goddaughter, Angela Jean Ellis and loving longtime friend, Bonny Ellis, along with many nieces and nephews.

Iris was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Viewing will be at Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel on Friday, January 31st from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Memorial Service will be at Eternal Hills Memorial Park on Saturday, February 1st

at 1:00 p.m.
