

James (Jim) Gordon Roberts, 93 years old, peacefully departed this life February 24, 2025, to be reunited with the love of his life of 38 years, Shirlene Ruth (Preston) Roberts, his daughter
Penny Sue Lepp, and his grandson Joshua Foulks. Jim was born April 12, 1931, to Tessie (Gordon) and Earl M. Roberts in Sioux City, Iowa. After growing up in Portland Oregon, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and began a twenty-three year career in uniform. After returning from Korea, he married Martha Alice (Gordon) in Quantico Virginia on August 1, 1958. They had four children together. Though their relationship turned out to be less permanent than either of them expected, both went on to remarry. While serving with the First Force Reconnaissance Company, First Reconnaissance Battalion, First Marine Division in Vietnam from 26 February 1967 to 11 March 1968 he was awarded a Bronze Star W/V. Additionally Jim was awarded a Purple Heart, Rifle Expert Badge, Pistol Expert Badge and numerous other medals, badges and ribbons. During part of his illustrious career he was the personal driver for Fleet Admiral C. W. Nimitz. Jim always recalled that assignment with a smile on his face. After retiring from the USMC he worked from 1972-1994 as the Chief of Security at The Wild Animal Park. On May 10, 1980 Jim and Shirlene married. Shirlene had four children that Jim loved as his own. Jim and Shirlene enjoyed camping, fishing (lots of fishing), traveling, wine tasting and spending time at the casino among other actives. MSGT Roberts is survived by his children Glen Roberts (Mandy), Terry Roberts (Linda) and Tammy Foulks as well as his stepchildren Marcia Ramos (Isaac), Jeff Couty, Monica Banks (Rich) Kathy Clark (Kevin) along with ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. MSGT Roberts, along with his beloved wife Shirlene, will be inurned at Eternal Hills Cemetery at 12:00 on May 17, 2025. A reception will follow at the Vista Green Valley Mobile Home Park Clubhouse, 2130 Sunset Dr, Vista.
