He served in the Marine Corps for 20 years and attained the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (GYSGT). His time in the Military included the Vietnam War and overseas duty’s in various countries. After he accomplished his military terms, Lonnie took on multiple management positions; grocery stores, gas stations, and Exchanges. His last job was a Safety Environmental Coordinator, NAVREDCOM19, San Diego where he later retired from the workforce in 2000.
His survivors; Jean Shine, wife of 31 years. Children; Roman, Roland and Martha (fiancée), grand-children; Melanie and Talia. Grand-children; Amber, Chad, Cial, Sharana, Lala, Lewis, Layla, Leah, Lyahn, great granddaughter Estela and a host of family members.
Lonnie was a godly, faithful man who loved the Lord. He was loved, is missed and will always be cherished. He was a member of The Rise Church formerly known as Faith Temple Christian Center, since 1989 where he met caring friends and loving family.
“Mr. Shine” would like to let you know that his work here is done. He received an offer in which he accepted without hesitation. He had an early appointment from which he will not be returning. His grandkids told him how much they loved him, his kids held him by the hand and told him he did a good job and how much they love him. His wife put her hand on his head, kissed him on the forehead and said, “I love you honey” and approved of this early appointment. She stayed by his side as he made the journey. This offer Lonnie has taken, comes with a huge sign-on bonus; no pain, no sickness, no worries, no struggles, and a place to golf all day. His new assignment takes him to a perfect place where he will be relaxing and enjoying pleasures ever more, where laughter and love are guaranteed. He left detailed instructions for his wife, children, and grand-children to celebrate his new mission. Obedience to these instructions are mandatory, as he would put it “submit”
We want him to know he did an outstanding job and we’re all proud of him. There were tough times, but deep down we know he was a lamb in a bear costume. You’ll surely be missed and will always be remembered. We love you!
Lonnie enjoyed golfing with family and Pastor, loved to bowl, watched westerns, read Louis L’Amour books, listened to old Motown music, played cards with his wife like; crazy 8, rummy, spades, and enjoyed pinochle with his boys. He routinely played dominoes with his best friend Alfred Lenford (who introduced Lonnie to The Rise church previously known as Faith Temple Christian Center).
The Shine family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to those who prayed for us and shared our grief during this time of bereavement. Your support, encouragement, your time, efforts, the cards, words of wisdom are deeply appreciated. God bless each one of you more and more.
