Marcia was born September 5th 1948 in Long Island, New York, to Marjorie and Joseph Wipfler. The family moved to West Palm Beach Florida when Marcia was about three years old. Eventually the family moved to Fort Lauderdale where they stayed.
Marcia attended Stranahan High School after which she enrolled, and graduated, Williams College with a degree in Advertising and Marketing. Marcia’s dream career and that of many of her friends, upon entering college was to have excellent qualifications to become an airline stewardess. The dream of being a stewardess was never realized, by Marcia and her best friend Karen; do to the turns in life’s journey that occurred later on.
Marcia’s free time was often spent, taking friends in her little Volkswagen convertible, to the popular Fort Lauderdale Beach.
After a brief time of doing the advertising for a travel agency Marcia moved on to become a top sales person at the Montez Stereo company selling stereos, records and tapes. After achieving success as a top sales person Marcia decided to join Broward County Title Company as a property title researcher. Her new position provided her workstations both in the Broward County courthouse as well as in the Broward Tile Company which of course was just across one of Fort Lauderdale’s New River bridges, and was her employer. Marcia gained a wide and deep understanding of how property transactions can be effected by the history of ownership as well as property litigation.
Marcia came to know all the judges at the court house resulting in many attending her wedding to James Walker in 1972.
While working at the title company Marcia and her Mom lived in a waterfront apartment on SW 15th St just off Florida’s Intracoastal Waterway, and the first short canal south of the well known 17 street Causeway, and within sight of the landmark Pier 66 hotel.
One day Marcia was coming home to her and her mom’s apartment after major dental surgery when at a distance two guys were talking planning a scuba diving trip. The guy sitting on the curb, near the front of his car spotted Marcia coming. She really- really was a doll the young man thought and so immediately stood up with a big smile and introduced himself as Jim Walker. Jim’s friend Ben later told Jim he saw what had just happened and knew at that moment the conversation with Jim was over and there was no need to hang around so left.
The couple dated and enjoyed night life together in the many wonderful restaurants and dancing hot spots that Fort Lauderdale was known for. The couple together, picked the boat they would own and care for the next 14 or so years.
After their meeting, and until Marcia’s passing, the couple formed a close bond, so close that is impossible to separate the life path of the two. They were always together.
Marcia and Jim were married on May 21, 1972 at All Saints Episcopal Church in Fort Lauderdale. A fun reception was held in the church’s recreation rooms, with finger sandwiches, Cold Duck (red Champaign) along with a live band for dancing. After the wedding cake was served and the garter toss was done the couple slipped out.
Waiting just outside the back door of the church was their boat, The Maray, the couples boat was tied to the church’s dock. The couple made their getaway in the boat cursing a relatively short distance to Pier 66’s dock and a waiting hotel room.
After a few relaxing days in there boat on the ocean Marcia and her husband flew to Puerto Rico to stay at the el Conquistador Resort in Fajardo. The couple then went on to Montego Bay, Jamaica and a little bungalow on the beach before returning to Fort Lauderdale.
The couple grew even closer as they were always together seemingly inseparable. The closeness of the two would last a lifetime, husband and wife, best friends and forever companions.
The couple was blessed with a son on Feb 14th 1983, James Brian Walker (Brian). Marcia immediately became one of the most devoted mothers imaginable.
Life changed for the Walker family in 1986 when Jim’s job. The family transferred to San Diego County and the Family chose Escondido to make their new home and is the same today.
Marcia the devoted Mom drove Brian and his friends back and forth to school, sports and anywhere else the kids wanted to go. Marcia and Jim are very proud of their son Brian. Marcia always kept in close touch with all the mothers of his friends. A mother’s love was always on display with Marcia. As Brian grew older Marcia found the time to work she enjoyed working for a period as a World Book Encyclopedia sales representative. Marcia often enjoyed helping run the local polling place during elections. As Brian matured and became very successful in his chosen careen, of automation and robotics, the couples pride in their son only continued to increase. Brian, along with her marriage to Jim, is truly the highlight of her loving life.
Marcia is one of the most kind, and sincere, and gentle persons who this earth has ever been blessed with. When Marcia would hug someone she did the hug because see deeply cared for others. Marcia’s became best friends with Karen who Marcia met at Williams College. They deeply cared for each other and remained close and in touch on the phone right up to Marcia’s passing. It was not uncommon for the two to speak on the phone for several hours as they cared for each other so very much. Marcia had many, many, friends but Karen is her very special friend. Marcia and Karen considered themselves as sisters of the heart. There is no doubt Marcia is looking down, from up above watching over her family and Karen.
Marcia was very happy to find her cousin Cheryl and husband Barry decided to move to San Diego. Marcia and Cousin Cheryl have been close friends for many years including frequently seeing each other while living in Florida. Fact is Cheryl met Barry Klopstein, her husband, because Barry and Jim had joined a group of boating friends on a two-week venture cruse, in their boats, into the Bahamas’ Islands. While the two guys were packing the boat Marcia and Cheryl came to see them off. Cheryl and Barry met that way and soon after were married. The couple has a son Carl who has a successful career in aerospace.
Sometime, after their son moved and married, Jim retired and the couple spent a few years taking fishing trips to Mexico, Belize, and Costa Rica as well as well as local off shore fishing and in the local lakes. They enjoyed cursing and fishing in their own boat as well. Eventually Marcia and Jim settled into a quiet life taking long walks in the local parks, and having lunch with their friends.
Marcia is survived by her devoted loving husband Jim, son Brian, Cousin Cheryl Klopstein in San Diego, Cousin Robert McIsaac, Cousin Kathy Reed and Cousin Patricia Heckman, all of Florida. Services are to be held on January 28th 1 pm at Eternal Hills, Oceanside CA and burial at San Marcos CA cemetery the following day at 1:30 pm.
